Happy Month of May, Lovely Lakers!

Can you believe it is May already? A special hug goes out to all the mamas, papas and grandparents of high school seniors preparing for graduation. It’s a busy month as the school year comes to an end. This post will help you organize events. Let me know if I missed anything: mhenry@lmoa.org. Happy planning!

May 3 Irish Night: From 5:30 – 7:30 PM at The Pub – 51 Bunker Blvd. Live Music featuring Matthew O’Donnell with Irish food and drink specials.

May 5 Cinco de Mayo: Live Music featuring Wrong Way Johnny with food and drink specials from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at The Pub. $5 cover charge. 

May 6 LMST Yard Sale: Come to the yard sale at 535 Jefferson Drive in the Lake from 8 AM – 2 PM and help support the Lake Monticello Swim Team. All proceeds from this sale will go towards the team.

May 6 Wheelin’ Sportsmen: The Lake Monticello Fishing Club is hosting the Wheelin’ Sportsmen on 6 May with a weather date of May20 from 8 AM – 2PM. This group provides people with disabilities opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and gain a sense of independence by being active in outdoor activities. Members of the Fishing Club will assist the Wheelin’ Sportsman and provide a fishing excursion on Lake Monticello. Following the fishing, a pizza social will be held at the Marina to swap fish stories. If you have questions about the fishing club or would like to get involved in a future event, email fishingclublakemonticello@gmail.com.

May 9 and 17 Town Hall Meetings: On this year’s Annual Meeting Ballot, the Board of Directors (BOD) will ask the Membership for permission to sell the Campground property located off Lake Monticello Road. To answer members’ questions about the proposal, LMOA will hold town hall meetings on May 9 and May 17 at 6 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.). Members can email their questions ahead of time to campground@lmoa.org, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the meetings answered by a panel of Board Members, Committee Members, and Staff. 

May 11 Music Bingo: Our lovely Sarah Davenport will host another Music Bingo at The Pub from 6:30 – 8 PM. Check out the details HERE!

CANCELED May 13 Tree Ceremony: The Lake Monticello Beautification Committee (LMBC) is excited to announce the dedication of 11 Red Maple trees planted this spring to replace 11 mature Bradford Pear trees. The dedication of these trees starts at 3 PM and will be a family-friendly affair. LMBC will repeat the ceremony on May 21 at 5 PM after the Newcomers and Old Friends meeting. 

May 14 Mother’s Day at Lakeside: Check out the mouthwatering menu HERE and reserve to celebrate Mother’s Day at the Lakeside Restaurant (41 Ashlawn Blvd.). The Buffet 11 AM – 4 PM. Price: Adult – $42.50/person | Child – $20.50/person.

May 14 Muffins with Mom: The Young Residents and Families Committee is hosting Muffins with Mom again this year! Bring your special, motherly figure to the Main Beach (end of Ashlawn Blvd.) from 11 AM – 1 PM where YRF will treat her to a free muffin. Gluten-free options are available. Bring a towel or chair and enjoy the Lake view! If you would like to volunteer at this event or any other YRF event, email yrfcommittee@gmail.com. Volunteers are always welcome!

May 15 Early Registration July 4 Events: This year, the Department of Public Safety will take extra precautions to ensure a safe Swim Across the Lake. The event which traditionally takes place on the 4th of July, has grown to be very popular, drawing nearly 250 participants last year. In 2023, preregistration is required to participate in Swim Across, participants must be at least 10 years old, and the event will be held in heats of 50 swimmers to ensure all participants remain visible during the crossing. There will be no same-day registrations. All other events will still offer same-day registration. The 5K also offers a preregistration period but is not mandatory. Early registrations for both the 5K and Swim Across the Lake will open the week of May 15.

May 18 Wine Dinner: Save the Date! Menu TBD. $65, reserve HERE.

May 21 FCHS Graduation Parade: The Graduation Parade is at 2 PM. The Class of 2023 will ride around Jefferson Drive. Graduates should gather at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 1:30 PM at 41 Ashlawn Blvd. to be lined up. LMVFR and police are also participating so please don’t be alarmed by the sirens. Feel free to wave from the side of Jefferson Drive! 

May 22 Voting Starts: The Annual Meeting Notice will be sent out via mail and email and voting starts. Voting will end at 5 PM on June 16. There will be no in-person voting at the Annual Meeting on June 24, 2023. 

May 23 Annual Softball Game: LMOA vs LMVFR Bunker Park at 5:30 PM. The after-game gathering will be at the firehouse on Slice Rd. If you are LMOA staff, a Board or Committee Member, a regular volunteer or family/friends of all the above, please reach out to Karis Rivera to join the team: krivera@lmoa.org.

May 26 Pool Season Opens 

May 27 Marigold is Coming to the Lake! Enjoy meeting Marigold the Opossum and two other animal friends. The Wildlife Center of Virginia will share some of its animal ambassadors with the community at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 3 PM. Come learn all about the program and the Lake’s Wildlife Committee. 

May 29 LMOA Offices CLOSED for Memorial Day

GOLF DATES

Women’s Thursday Night League: The Lake Monticello Ladies Golf Association is starting a new league that focuses on enabling working women to enjoy golf at the Lake. Starting June 1st, the Thursday Night 9 Hole League will begin at 5:30 PM. Participants can play Captain’s Choice or their own ball. This league is non-competitive and is a great chance to meet new people, enjoy summer on the course, and work on skills. There is no fee to join but non-contract golfers will need to pay greens and cart fees. For property owners, it will cost $19 without a cart or $32 with a cart. For the general public, the cost is $33 which includes a cart.
